File Formats and Scanning

File formats refer to the way a file is stored. In scanning technology file formats refer to the way the image is stored on the computer. There are a number of different file formats just for graphics images, for example ' BMP, TIFF, GIF, JPEG.

We suggest scanning and saving images as BMP or TIFF formats. These two formats will give the best final results. Furthermore, to get the highest quality product, images should be scanned in RGB color at 400 dpi. to 600 dpi.

A way to reduce file size is to "crop" the image. This process involves scanning only the area of the image you would like to include in your final scan. If there is an object of interest in an image, cut out some of the background. The file size will be reduced because you are scanning less of the object
